Noccela shows smartphone indoor navigation at MWC 2024
At MWC Barcelona 2024, Noccela demonstrated indoor navigation with UWB smartphones, building on the positioning network it first deployed in Finland in 2023.

Noccela is demonstrating indoor navigation with ultra-wideband (UWB) smartphones at MWC Barcelona 2024, the mobile industry’s annual trade show, held from 26 to 29 February 2024.
The demonstration
The demonstration shows a UWB-enabled phone finding its way indoors. The phone calculates its own position from signals sent by Noccela base stations (UWB anchors), in the same way that a phone uses satellites outdoors. The calculation happens on the phone, so the network does not track the user.
The demonstration builds on the UWB network for smartphones that Noccela deployed in Finland in November 2023, and follows the CES 2024 demonstration with Qorvo in January.
Why indoor navigation
Large indoor spaces such as transport terminals, shopping centres, trade fairs and arenas are where satellite positioning does not reach and where visitors often need directions. Precise indoor location also makes it possible to bring services to the visitor and to trigger orders or payments at the right spot.
