Build the technology that knows where things are

Noccela designs its ultra-wideband (UWB) real-time location system end to end in Finland: radio protocol, hardware, firmware, cloud and user interface. If you want to see your work run in factories and on sports fields, we would like to hear from you.

What you would build

Five areas, one system. The boundaries between them are short, and much of the interesting work happens where they meet.

Embedded and firmware

Firmware for base stations (UWB anchors) and tags: the High-Performance Ranging (HPR) radio protocol, power management for battery life of several years, sensors and over-the-air updates.

RF and hardware

Antennas, circuit boards and enclosures for ultra-wideband devices that work in factories, on sports fields and in harsh outdoor conditions, and the radio testing behind them.

Cloud backend

The positioning engine that turns radio measurements into positions, and the services and APIs that stream them to customers, in the cloud and on premises.

Frontend

The Location Intelligence Platform: live maps, history and heatmaps, dashboards, workflow tools and the installation and calibration tools that field engineers use.

Field engineering

Site surveys, installation, calibration, pilots and training at customer sites, and the feedback from the field that shapes the next version of the product.

Curious about the technology? Read how High-Performance Ranging and automatic calibration work, or browse the developer documentation.

How we work

A small team

You work directly with the people who design the radio, the hardware, the firmware and the cloud. Decisions are quick and short paths are normal.

End-to-end ownership

You own a piece of the system from design to the customer site, and you see your work running in real factories, warehouses and sports venues.

Close to customers and partners

Engineers talk to customers and partners and help with pilots, so problems are understood first-hand rather than through a chain of tickets.

Learning across the stack

A positioning system touches radio physics, embedded code, distributed systems and user interfaces. There is always something new to learn from a colleague.

Where you would work

Littoinen, near Turku

Our office is at Kaarinantie 700, 20660 Littoinen, in Kaarina on the edge of Turku in south-west Finland.

How to apply

E-mail info@noccela.com with the subject "Open application". Include:

  • your CV, or a short summary of your experience
  • what you would like to work on, and why
  • links to code, projects or work you are proud of, if you can share them
  • when you could start

How we handle applications is described in the privacy notice.

Thesis topics for students

Noccela has worked with universities of applied sciences on research projects, and theses have been written about Noccela systems. If you are looking for a bachelor's or master's thesis topic, these are areas where one could fit.

  • Positioning algorithms and filtering for ultra-wideband ranging
  • Combining UWB with accelerometer and other sensor data
  • Antenna and radio measurements in industrial environments
  • Modelling and extending tag battery life
  • Location analytics: heatmaps, dwell times, utilisation and safety KPIs
  • Usability of real-time maps and dashboards
  • Integrating location data with MES, WMS and ERP systems

Topics are agreed case by case with you and your university. Send a short description of your idea and your schedule to info@noccela.com.
