Start a pilot

Prove real-time location on your own floor

A pilot answers the questions a demo cannot: how accurate the system is in your building, how many base stations (UWB anchors) the full site needs, and whether your use case pays off. You use it in your real operations and decide on real results.

What a pilot proves

A pilot is small on purpose: one area, one or two use cases, clear success criteria.

Accuracy in your building

Metal racking, machinery and concrete all affect radio. A pilot measures what you get on your floor, not in a showroom.

The layout for the full site

Coverage measured on site tells you how many base stations the rollout needs and where they go.

That the use case works

Search times, warnings, andon calls or work-in-progress visibility, tested in your real processes.

Integration and acceptance

Data flowing to your systems, and feedback from the people who use the system every day.

What the pilot kit contains

The exact contents follow your area and use case. A pilot typically includes the following.

From Noccela

  • Base stations for the pilot area

Beacon 3 base stations indoors, or Sports Beacons on a field. Where there is no cabling, Extension Boxes and power banks with an LTE router.

  • Tags and badges for your use case

ID Badges for people, Smart Tags or Industrial Tags for assets and vehicles, and Andon Buttons if the pilot includes calls.

  • Accessories where needed

A Signalling Flash to test warnings at a crossing, a test bench or a workstation.

  • Access to the Location Intelligence Platform

Map view, dashboards and Workflow Manager in Noccela’s cloud for the duration of the pilot, plus API access if you want to test integration.

  • Remote support from Noccela engineers

Help with the plan, the installation and calibration, the set-up of zones and rules, and the review of results.

From you

  • A floor plan

Of the pilot area, with dimensions, as a PDF or image.

  • PoE network or power

PoE switch ports and cabling to the base station positions, or mains power for a battery and wireless set-up.

  • A contact person

Someone who knows the site and can make decisions during the pilot.

  • A clear question

What the pilot should prove, and how you will measure it.

Five steps from first call to results

  1. First call

We talk about your goal, your site and what success looks like.

  2. Pilot plan

From your floor plan we plan the area, the base station layout, the devices and the success criteria, and send a proposal.

  3. Install and calibrate

Base stations are mounted and calibrate themselves. Tags go on people, vehicles or assets, and the platform gets your zones and rules.

  4. Run the pilot

Your team uses the system in daily operations. We follow it remotely and fine-tune it with you.

  5. Results and next steps

We review the results against the success criteria together and, if the case is proven, plan the rollout.

Frequently asked questions

How large an area does a pilot cover?
Usually one area that represents the real problem: a production cell, a few warehouse aisles, a loading dock or a crossing. Each base station covers up to 500 m², so a pilot needs only a few of them.
Do we have to install network cabling?
Not necessarily. If PoE network is available at the base station positions, we use it. If not, base stations can run from power banks through Extension Boxes and connect over an LTE router.
Does the pilot need integration with our IT systems?
No. The pilot works on its own in the platform. If you want to test integration, your developers can use the APIs during the pilot.
Can we run the pilot on-premise?
Pilots usually run in Noccela’s cloud, which needs no server on site. If your policy rules out the cloud, we plan the pilot with an on-premise server.
What happens after the pilot?
We review the results with you. If you go ahead, the pilot area can become the first part of the full installation, and the system grows zone by zone.
What does a pilot cost?
We quote each pilot on the area, the devices and the support it needs. Ask for a pilot proposal.
Will the pilot track our employees?
Only if your use case needs it. If the pilot uses ID Badges, agree the purpose, the retention of data and how employees are informed before you start. Data protection, cloud and on-premise.
