How many base stations (UWB anchors) do I need?
Enter your floor area and environment for a first estimate. It uses the same planning rule our engineers start from.
Only the floor area where you need positions, not the whole building.
Estimate
25
base stations (UWB anchors)
For about 5,000 m², or roughly 200 m² per base station.
This is a first estimate. The real number depends on walls, racking, ceiling height and the accuracy you need. A Noccela engineer can plan it from your floor plan.
Questions about planning
How many UWB anchors do I need per square metre?
A common planning figure for open indoor areas is one base station (UWB anchor) per about 200 m². Dense environments with metal and machinery need more. Noccela base stations can cover up to 500 m² each in open line-of-sight areas.
Why is there a minimum number of base stations?
Every tag needs to be heard by several base stations at once, from different directions, for a reliable position. Below a certain count the geometry is too weak, even if the area is small.
Does ceiling height matter?
Yes. Base stations are usually mounted high enough to see over people, vehicles and racking. Very high ceilings or very low ones change the layout. Read the deployment planning guide for details.
Do I need cabling to every base station?
Noccela Beacon 3 uses one Ethernet cable for power and data (PoE). For temporary or outdoor set-ups, the Extension Box runs a base station from a power bank over Wi-Fi.
Does the number of tags change the estimate?
Not for typical sites. Each radio area handles 1,000 active tags at 1 Hz, and tags that are not moving sleep and do not use capacity.
